Pie

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
3 John 1:4

Second place might involve food . . .

Daughter #2 baked two pies today! Peach pies. From scratch. No store bought crust. Enjoyed with Blue Bunny ice cream.

My wife is baking fresh cookies! To be enjoyed with a cold glass of milk.

Oh happy day.

Great Joy!

Mt. Pisgah

Sweet hour of prayer! sweet hour of prayer!
May I thy consolation share,
Till, from Mount Pisgah’s lofty height,
I view my home and take my flight.
This robe of flesh I’ll drop, and rise
To seize the everlasting prize,
And shout, while passing through the air,
“Farewell, farewell, sweet hour of prayer!”

Our family hiked to the top of Mt. Pisgah (Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina) last week. Since then these lyrics have been running thru my head. We lost two loved ones from our church congregation in the past few months, and two more are on their deathbeds. What a consolation and inspiration it is to know of the hope and promise they have awaiting them as they take their flight!

Standing on a mountain top always impresses me as I view the vast expanse of God's creation. And I know our eternal home will be far greater than what we enjoy here on earth.
Physically, I believe that being on a mountain top is as close as a person can get to God while here on this earth. Maybe I can understand the reason the people wanted to build the tower of Babel! Thankfully, as Christians we can have God within us and surrounding us! It doesn't get any better than that. The hour of prayer is indeed sweet.

My prayers are with all families who have lost or are losing a loved one.

Finished

On the satellite map there is a little speck of red surrounded by yellow, and we are sitting under it right now. A real torrential downpour! We really don't need any more rain right now, but thankfully we are finished.

We were able to start combining wheat Monday night. Tuesday was a good day and we finished wheat harvest at about 2:00 in the afternoon. We immediately started baling straw and by early evening we had a third of it in the haymow. It rained Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. Thursday was a sunny, breezy day and the straw dried fast. Today we started baling after lunch and by evening all the straw was baled and put away. Cousin Lee also came and baled 80+ large round bales for us this afternoon. It was some of the most pleasant weather that we have ever had on baling day. Thanks to all who helped!

So it's a good feeling to be looking out at the rain knowing how much the Lord allowed us to accomplish this week.

And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.
16And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.
Revelations 14:15,16

Wheat

Well, it's wheat harvest time again. The rainy week was not appreciated. Finally this evening after supper, following a sunny, breezy afternoon, we were able to get out in the field and try combining. The moisture was still a little high, but I opened up the field anyway in anticipation of a dry Sunday and Monday. We planned a vacation starting the end of next week and I thought for sure the harvest would be over and the straw baled, but so far the Lord has other plans. Hopefully we will have a good week. It seems that the week before a vacation is so hectic that you wonder if it's worth all the trouble. But, I definitely like my vacations.

Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

James 4:14,15
