Much Progress

Two weekends ago, Uncle Russell caught a ride to Illinois for a visit, and we kept him overnight.  It was good to spend some time with him and hear his wisdom and spiritual insight again.

The three Brothers-in-law after church on Sunday.

We got back in the fields on Monday, June 3rd even though the fields were not really fit yet.  With rain in the forecast, we were unsure how the week would go.  We pushed ahead anyway, and the forecasted rain did not materialize.  We worked around the wettest spots, and mudded through some damp spots.  We finished all the local corn by Thursday, and started on soybeans.  By Friday afternoon, the fields were actually fit to be working.  By Saturday night the local soybeans were all in the ground.  We finished our distant beans on the following Tuesday, and took prevent plant on the last field of corn that wasn't dry enough to plant until June 10.  What a difference one week makes!  We also were able to go back in and plant the wet spots, so we are finished.  We used three different planters and our drill to make it all happen; our regular 16 row, our old 6 row, and Precision Planting loaned us their 12 row for a day.  The nephews (who used the 6 row), found it hard to believe we used to plant 800 acres with a 6 row planter!  We are now in the process of drilling oats in the PP field to hold the weeds down for the summer.

Saturday was nephew Austin's wedding in Indiana. We left home at 9:20 in the morning and returned home at 11:20 at night.  Ten hours in the car and four hours at the wedding; a big day.  We enjoyed the wedding and the trip, and wish Austin and Brittany God's blessings. I received a call from neighbor Paul during the reception that we had pigs that broke out of our hoop building.  He said they were staying close to the building, so we told him we would put them in when we got home. Nephew Tate rode home with us, so at 11:30 Saturday night in the dark and rain, we were chasing pigs.  Fortunately, then rounded up and went back in fairly easily. We were back in the house by 11:45, wet and exhausted from the long day.
