Update

So it's been a while since I have posted. A lot has happened! We have been planning to replace our driveway/patio/sidewalks for sometime, but the weather has held us up. While waiting for the fields to dry out, we finally got started. It was supposed to be done in time for a graduation.

The tearout begins with a skidsteer mounted jackhammer. The operator was good!

While tearing out in front of the garage, we broke into the kitchen "septic tank". We had to pump it out and then repair it before we could continue. It was like a government job with all the people standing around watching!

At about the same time, we started redoing our landscaping. The tearout had been done a few weeks ago, but the replanting and mulching didn't get started until a few days before the graduation. In three evenings 132 plants were put in the ground, mulched around, and watered good. The brick edge didn't get done in time for the graduation, but it all looked nice anyway.

Our last EHS graduation is over. Daughter number 2 has graduated. It was a hot day sitting on the bleachers, but we made it through our fourth ceremony. One evening I helped her set up a Facebook account (what's wrong with this picture?).
We have been in the fields finally the last two weeks. We are about a month behind normal. The long string of 18 hour days have been very wearing, but we have made good progress. We are far from being done, but the end is in sight. Another clear week would be great. And then we'll be wishing for rain!

Saturated

We received 2.7 inches of rain Tues.night/Wednesday. We didn't need any of it. It's supposed to rain again tomorrow. Another week of planting delays. At night we are serenaded by the sound of frogs in all the puddles and ponds.

On the bright side, since I wasn't in the field, I got to attend my last choral concert at EHS. My daughter surprised us with a solo. She did very well. Even though I don't understand the Scottish brogue very well.

And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch forth thine hand with thy rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.

Bored Tractors

For weeks our tractors have been parked in the shed, waiting for the fields to dry out. Nothing to do. Finally today we were able to get in the fields and get some work done. At one time today we actually had four different tractors doing various jobs in the fields. And we got our sweet corn planted and our first corn field planted. It took us a while to get going - something always brakes down the first day. But it's a start.

Its lightning and thundering in the west. It's supposed to rain again tonight.

Because of working in the field, I missed our last High School Honors night. Daughter #2 received some nice awards. Congratulations!

He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.

Before and After

Our corn crib refacing project is finished. We still need to get the roof repainted, but a different contractor is scheduled to do that. I didn't realize how bad it looked until we recovered it (but my wife was aware of how bad it looked!). It looks much better now. We also added on a garage for our new (used) feed truck. It was a lot of money to spend on an old, outdated building, but since we use it daily to grind all of our feed, we had to keep it from deteriorating any worse. My Grandpa built this crib back in the late 1920's from native lumber. It has stood the test of time very well.

And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
