Trips

A week and a half ago, we took a quick trip to Burlington to visit Son#2, D-I-L, and granddaughter.  We hadn't seen them since February, and our little girl is growing up.  D-I-L made us turtle stew from a turtle that Son#2 had caught.  It was really good! 
It was the first time I drove our new van in about two months.

This past weekend we headed out to Grabill to see D#2 and family.  Indiana is opening up quicker than Illinois, so we were able to spend a nice weekend with family and see the grand-kids out there again.  Campus is still closed, so we couldn't tour Gateway Woods, but we did a drive-thru. They took us on a driving tour of Amish country which was interesting.  I didn't realize how concentrated the Amish live out there.  Around here there might be a farmstead about every quarter section, but they have a farmstead on every 40 acres that includes three houses!
It rained going out and coming home; it seems like it does every time we head out to Northeast Indiana.

I was able to finish planting soybeans ahead of the midweek rains last week.  The first planted corn is finally coming up nice.  We received almost another 3" of rain over the weekend, so we have a lot of ponding.  This will probably mean some replant. 

We finally were able to get a load of hogs shipped to the packing plant.  Many plants have been shut down either because of the virus, or because the workers won't show up because they are scared.  Most plants are open again, but not at full capacity.  We were two weeks behind, so the load of pigs we shipped averaged 309 pounds per head.  Normally we ship at 280 pounds.  We have been selling some hogs to individuals, but the local butchers and lockers are now booked up clear into 2021!
