First Snow

We got in a day and a half of harvest last week.  That is all the weather and wet fields allowed.  We had a pleasant surprise one afternoon when Faire Coffee delivered coffee drinks to our harvest crew in the field. Thanks Emily!

We enjoyed a beautiful sunset one evening in the field.

Its not a good sign when you pull into a field and this is what faces you!  Unfortunately, we are having to deal with some down corn this year.

Halloween day we received about 4 inches of snow!  The Peoria area hadn't had snow on Halloween for over 100 years.  That night the temperature dropped to 22 degrees.  I decided it was time to break out the long johns for the season.  The next day the leaves started falling from the trees en mass.  There were blankets of leaves anywhere there were trees that still had their leaves.

In addition to the snow, in the last week we have had about 3 1/2 inches of rain.  Short days, wet soils, and cold temperatures do not make for good dry down for harvest.  We are hesitating to make Thanksgiving plans, because we  may still be in the fields.

But yet in it shall be a tenth, and it shall return, and shall be eaten: as a teil tree, and as an oak, whose substance is in them, when they cast their leaves: so the holy seed shall be the substance thereof.
