TV

I visited with a young Christian male college student last week, and he asked me about television. I told him that I wasn't raised with TV in the house and that we didn't raise our children with TV. We didn't want to disadvantage them intellectually or spiritually in any way. He agreed that that was a good thing. He was raised with TV and watches video/DVDs regularly. He said he finally realized some of the ways that regular TV and movie watching affected him.
He is unable to concentrate as well in church or the classroom. He is unable to concentrate as well when reading the Bible or praying(personal devotions). He even thinks he is less articulate when speaking!
He already knew about the potential temptations from sex, violence, drinking, and general worldliness, but this was a new realization. He intends to severely restrict its use in the future.

I think he has just been enlightened as to why so many call it the boob tube!

Psa 101:3
I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes:

Deu 7:26
Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: [but] thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it [is] a cursed thing.

Comic

Rat: The stupid city council is gonna get rid of the monkey bars at the elemetary school.

Pig: That's a good idea.

Rat: Why do you say that?

Pig: Kids shouldn't drink with monkeys.

beat-up Pig contemplating: ( . . . . . . . and never discuss politics!)

K.C.

Everything is up to date in Kansas City!

I know, we spent the weekend there.

We traveled to K.C. friday afternoon to attend my nephew's baptism. It was raining when we left home, but it turned to freezing rain and ice just west of Springfield, IL. From then on it was dangerous, stressful driving on icy roads. My defroster was having trouble keeping up, so we had to stop regularly to scape ice off the windshield and wipers. Often I would open the window and reach out and snap the wipers while driving. Until one time when the power window wouldn't shut. We got the window back up eventually, but I didn't use that method anymore! The normal 6 1/2 - 7 hour trip became a 10 hour trip averaging about 45 miles per hour. Even at 2:00 in the morning when we rolled into K.C., with the temperature in the teens, it was still raining rather that snowing.

But we made it safe and sound, for which we were very thankful. We enjoyed family time, fellowship, and many spiritual blessings. An afternoon at Cabela's with gift cards in hand was another highlight. The trip home was much less eventful, with much improved weather and road conditions. My 15 year-old daughter in training, drove 2 1/2 hours which added a little stress, but she did well and we had another safe trip.

I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.
And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.

Pie

We travelled alot as we were raising our kids. We spent a lot of our car time listening to tapes. Many times I heard Farmer Barr telling the story "Tom-Tit-Tot". In it there are some lines that came to mind today.

My daughter has eaten five pies today,
My daughter has eaten five pies today.

Today, I can say; My daughter has baked four pies today, My daughter has baked four pies today.

Apple, Peach, Cherry. I hope they save some for me! Really big smile!

Quotes

I was told these two quotes this weekend. I laughed. A lot.

Middle aged married man to a pretty, young, single girl: "Don't worry, someday you'll get the opportunity to make a decent man miserable!"

"Some mornings I wake up grumpy . . . some mornings I just let her sleep!"
